Medical Detox in Los Angeles

Detox & Residential Addiction Treatment in Los Angeles

Changes Wellness is a licensed treatment center in Northridge for adults with alcohol or drug dependence, offering medically managed detox, residential addiction treatment, and care for co-occurring mental health conditions.

One Program

Two Levels of Care

Changes Wellness is a licensed residential detox and addiction treatment program in Northridge, Los Angeles, with two levels of care under one roof: medically managed withdrawal and residential treatment. Care is provided by an interdisciplinary team that may include licensed therapists, master’s-level clinicians, substance use disorder counselors, case management, medical staff, and prescribing providers.

Treatment is planned around the whole person using ASAM criteria, taking into account substance use, physical and mental health, medications, recovery environment, and other factors that can affect treatment.

The program operates from a small private residence rather than a hospital or large campus, allowing care to remain personal and focused.

Changes Wellness is not an acute-care hospital or psychiatric inpatient unit. If someone needs a level of medical or psychiatric care beyond what can be provided in the residence, the team coordinates an appropriate transfer.

People and Families We Support

Changes Wellness works with adults whose substance use has become difficult to manage, as well as people whose mental health, work, family life, or recovery environment has become connected to that struggle.

Adults With Alcohol or Drug Dependence

Treatment includes alcohol and drug dependence involving substances such as opioids, including fentanyl and heroin, benzodiazepines, cocaine, and methamphetamine. Withdrawal needs are assessed as part of determining the appropriate starting point for care.

People With Co-Occurring Mental Health Concerns

Substance use does not always happen on its own. Anxiety, depression, trauma or PTSD, grief, ADHD, burnout, and sleep problems can be addressed alongside addiction as part of the same treatment plan.

Professionals Concerned About Privacy and Work

Taking time away from work can raise practical questions about confidentiality and job protection. Changes Wellness can assist with FMLA and CFRA treatment-related documentation when appropriate, while essential communication with work can be arranged during treatment.

Families Looking for Help

You do not have to be the person using substances to need guidance. Families can contact Changes Wellness to understand available treatment, how admission works, and how family involvement can fit into the process.

People who need acute medical or psychiatric hospital care may need a different setting. Admissions can help determine whether Changes Wellness is appropriate and, when it is not, help identify the right direction.

The Changes Wellness Approach

Changes Wellness provides two connected levels of addiction treatment, allowing care to continue within the same program as your needs change.

Residential detox and withdrawal management

Detox provides 24-hour staffed withdrawal management, including overnight support. A prescribing provider can order medications based on the substance involved, withdrawal symptoms, medical history, and clinical presentation. CIWA-Ar and COWS may be used when clinically appropriate to assess alcohol and opioid withdrawal.

Changes Wellness provides clinically managed residential withdrawal management rather than acute hospital care. If withdrawal becomes medically intensive or requires hospital-level treatment, transfer to an appropriate medical facility is arranged.

Residential treatment

Residential treatment provides a structured environment for continuing the work that begins during detox. Clients have access to individual and group therapy, case management, relapse-prevention work, psychoeducation, family involvement, and discharge planning.

For people searching for inpatient rehab in Los Angeles, it is important to understand what residential care involves. At Changes Wellness, residential treatment provides ongoing clinical and recovery support while you live at the treatment residence.

Placement and length of stay are assessed at admission using ASAM criteria and reassessed as treatment progresses.

Most clients move from detox into residential treatment within the same program, allowing the transition to continue without starting over with a new treatment setting.

Detox by Substance

Withdrawal can look very different depending on the substance involved. The type, amount, and duration of use, along with previous withdrawal experiences and other health factors, help shape how detox is managed.

01

Alcohol Detox

Alcohol withdrawal can range from uncomfortable symptoms to serious complications. Clinical assessment and ongoing monitoring help the team identify changes and determine when medication or a higher level of medical care may be needed.

02

Opioid Detox

Opioid withdrawal can involve significant physical discomfort, cravings, gastrointestinal symptoms, sleep disruption, and other effects. Withdrawal management focuses on monitoring symptoms and providing clinically appropriate support during stabilization.

03

Benzodiazepine Detox

Benzodiazepine withdrawal requires particular attention because stopping suddenly after regular use can carry significant risks. The approach is based on the person’s medication history, pattern of use, symptoms, and medical needs.

04

Stimulant Withdrawal

Cocaine and methamphetamine withdrawal can involve fatigue, sleep changes, low mood, irritability, cravings, and difficulty concentrating. Care focuses on observation, stabilization, supportive treatment, and identifying ongoing needs.

Mental Health Is Treated Alongside Addiction

Substance use and mental health concerns can affect each other, making it difficult to know where one ends and the other begins.

Substance use can overlap with mental health, emotional, and behavioral concerns, and these needs can be addressed within the same treatment plan at Changes Wellness.

This may include concerns such as anxiety or depression, trauma-related symptoms, grief, attention difficulties, sleep disruption, or burnout.

Psychiatric medication is not stopped automatically. A prescribing provider reviews current medications and determines whether they should be continued, reassessed, or adjusted based on the person’s needs.

Assessment also continues as withdrawal clears. Early sobriety can produce symptoms that resemble or intensify psychiatric concerns, so the clinical picture may become clearer as stabilization progresses rather than being decided from the first few hours alone.

This integrated approach is part of our dual diagnosis treatment in Los Angeles.

What to Expect During Treatment

Treatment at Changes Wellness is structured, but the day is not built around keeping clients in programming from morning until night. The schedule changes depending on where you are in treatment and what you need.

Your First Hours

Your first hours begin with arrival at the residence and a clinical and health screening. The team reviews recent substance use, withdrawal history, current medications, medical and psychiatric history, vital signs, symptoms, and immediate safety concerns. CIWA-Ar or COWS may be used when appropriate.

You are shown to your room, introduced to the team, and given time for food, hydration, and rest. If you are experiencing acute withdrawal, you are not expected to participate in a full day of programming. The initial priority is stabilization.

A Typical Day in Residential Treatment

Morning

Breakfast, medication support when applicable, mindfulness or intention-setting, followed by group or individual clinical work.

Afternoon

Therapy, relapse-prevention work, wellness activities, exercise or outdoor time, and appropriate personal time.

Evening

Dinner, recovery programming, approved family contact, and quieter time leading into established rest and sleep routines.

Weekends

Therapeutic structure continues, with more room for wellness, recreation, family connection, and restorative downtime.

Your schedule may differ depending on your treatment plan, progress, and clinical needs.

Treatment Without Putting Your Work Life on Hold

Taking time for treatment does not necessarily mean sharing the details of your care with your employer.

Changes Wellness can help with documentation for eligible leave or workplace accommodations when clinically and legally appropriate, including FMLA or CFRA paperwork.

Your employer generally does not need your psychotherapy notes or complete treatment record. Documentation can establish the need for qualifying leave or an accommodation without disclosing unnecessary clinical details. Any release of information is handled with your authorization, subject to applicable law.

If staying connected to work is necessary during treatment, phone access for essential work contacts can be accommodated within program guidelines and your clinical circumstances.

Who Will Be Caring for You?

Your care involves multiple disciplines working from the same treatment plan.

Depending on your needs, your team may include licensed therapists, master’s-level clinicians, substance use disorder counselors, case management, medical staff, and prescribing medical or psychiatric providers.

Rather than separating substance use from the other factors affecting recovery, the team coordinates care around the needs identified during assessment and throughout treatment.
